Elements of a Quality Backlink

Backlinks matter to SEO. Despite the rapid changes in the search landscape, that fact remains true. When coming from the right source, they serve as a vote for your site that says. Quality backlinks serve as legitimacy and relevancy signals to search engines. Low-quality backlinks can actually signal the opposite. That’s why it’s important to not only pay attention to how many backlinks you have, but also what kind.

What makes a quality backlink?

The answer is not always cut and dry. There are a few elements that factor into the quality assessment of a link coming back to your site.

Referring Site Quality. Does the linking site look like a quality site with unique and valuable content? Is the content consistent and updated regularly? Sometimes a quick gut check is enough before you even need to investigate into the specifics below.
Page Relevance. The link should make sense in the context of the page it is on and the two pages should be relevant to one another. Lack of relevance can signal spam and actually count against you. Bonus points if the domains, or sites as a whole, are relevant to one another.
Link Type. There are many different types of links; Anchor text links (a linked word or phrase within text) are one of the more common and effective ways to optimize and increase rankings for a keyword. Image links are also effective, but only if the image is optimized with the alt attribute. It’s also good to watch out for links that redirect to a site.
Domain and Page Authority. The authority of the domain and page the link is coming from doesn’t matter as much as it used to, but it still factors into the quality of a link. There are tools out there to check both domain and page authority, but you can also look at how much traffic the domain is getting. A blog post with comments and engagement can also be seen as authoritative.
Location. Where the link appears on the page is also a factor to consider. Within content is best. Links in sections boxed away from the main content also count, but not as much. Side bar links are next on the scale. Links in the footer have the least value.
These are basic elements to think about when evaluating backlinks to your site. It’s important to remember that many low-quality links are easy to sniff out before you even have to check all of the other factors. Focus on gaining natural, high quality links and you will be on your way to link building success. When you’re working with quality, a little can go a long way.

  • WEBSITE HOSTING

    What is Web Hosting?

When you design a website and want other people to see it, you will need to publish (or upload) it with a web hosting service.

Web hosting services work by storing your website files in high-powered computers (web servers) connected to a very fast network. When someone types in your web address (such as www.advertisingsolutions.co.za), the Internet connects to the web server holding your website files and then transfers your website information back to their computer. From there they can surf and view the pages of your website.

  • DOMAIN NAME

    What is a Domain Name?

A domain name (www.yourcompanyname.co.za) is essentially your company’s Internet address; the same way your company’s street address is used to find your offices, a domain name is used to find your website. Consider this: Pick a domain name that’s memorable and relevant!

  • NUMBER OF STOCK PHOTOS

Stock photos are professionally taken photographs that we can buy online to use commercially, without having to stress over copy-right issues. It can be used to enhance your website or in marketing material.

Stock photos can save you quite a bit of time and money, as you do not have to hire a photographer just to have some quality images for your website. While stock images cover a broad range of applications, it can be difficult to acquire pictures for a certain niche, or a specific product.

  • NUMBER OF SLIDES

    What is a slider?

A banner slider is comprised of images and text on multiple slides, allowing you to rotate content on a single space on your website. It’s most commonly the first thing you see (apart from the logo and menu) on a website’s home page. The purpose of the slider is to catch the attention of the viewer while being visually appealing and easy to read. It can be used to display selected information, such as promotions or highlighting specific products or services, and can also be used to easily navigate your site.

    How many should I use?

This is dependable on the amount of content you have on your website. Small websites that do not have much information 1-2 sliders will be enough. Websites with more pages and content to market will require more sliders to make the navigation of the site easily digestible for the viewer, while promoting certain products or content. We do not recommend more than 5 slides, as we find that most viewers spend a few minutes on your home page before moving on to another page and won’t view more than 5 slides.
